 Rédition effectuée à partir de celle parue en 1818 à Londres.

Cette relation du naufrage eut en Europe un grand retentissement et, témoignage direct de cette tragédie, contribua à faire condamner le commandant Hugues Duroy de Chaumareys, jugé responsable du naufrage et de l'abandon de 149 marins.

- Jean-Baptiste-Henry Savigny (1793-1843), né à Rochefort, était chirurgien en second (adjoint du chirurgien-major Follet) à bord de La Méduse. Il sera l'un des 3 officiers volontaires à prendre place sur le radeau et fera partie des 15 survivants.
- Alexandre Corréard (1788-1857) était ingénieur géographe, il fera, lui aussi partie des 15 rescapés du radeau.
