This volume, published in association with the Grimaldi Forum exhibition in Monte Carlo, profiles the work of 30 leading African artists including painters, photographers, sculptors and video artists whose works illustrate how intrinsically sub-Saharan African Art—with its own values, forms, and cultural history—has absorbed and transformed external influences. The artists featured include Seydou Keïta, Frédéric Bruly Bouabré, Malick Sidibé, Moke, Chéri Samba, Romuald Hazoumé and Bodys Isek Kingelez.
André Magnin is Director of the the Contemporary African Art Collection (CAAC) in Paris and Geneva and author of several publications on contemporary African artists.
